This is an opportunity for children to focus on key skills needed for the foundation phase. For example we practice putting coats/shoes/clothes on and off, becoming independent with activities and communicating confidently to adults/peers. We work in partnership with surrounding schools to ensure our school leavers have a smooth transition.
Children have the opportunity to visit Petworth House, our local Residential Home. We also take small groups of children to the local shop for things such as kitchen roll/bin bags/supplies that we may have run out of. We let the children handle real money and talk to shop workers. This will assist children in learning about money and the environment around them.
We run a a ICT club here at Great Holm Pre-school. After our recent Ofsted inspection we realised we could improve on our technology skills. We now teach children the importance of online safety through using the tablets with children.
Each week the children take time out of the main room to complete play dough gym. This is exercising the finger and arm muscles by using play dough to music. This builds the muscles ready to be able to hold pens for writing.
